Today I am exactly 10 weeks and 5 days pregnant. I went to the Dr. today because I have a sinus infection and got an amazing surprise. Pat (our Dr.) pulled out the Doppler and I was shocked. Our appointment isn't until next week and Mike wasn't there with me. She told me that they needed to make sure that the baby was doing well since I was sick. We decided to call Mike so that he could listen in and we could hear the heartbeat together. Pat warned me that we might not be able to find the heartbeat on the Doppler, but that if we couldn't find it she would do an ultrasound to make sure everything was o.k. Almost as soon as she touched the Doppler to my belly you could hear the heartbeat - strong and clear. I called Mike (who is in CA for work) so that he could hear the heartbeat with me. It was 8:00 a.m. here, so 5:00 a.m. there. I think I may have startled him calling so early, but he was thrilled to hear the heartbeat - we both were. I can't explain the relief that comes with hearing that your baby is healthy and that everything is o.k.
It still seems so surreal. There is another life growing inside of me. In 29 weeks, there will be an addition to our family. Mike and I will be parents. Our parents will be Grandparents, our brothers and sisters will become Aunts and Uncles, our Grandparents will become Great-Grandparents - I can hardly wrap my mind around it all. It's just so unbelievable. It makes you reflect a bit on your life (I'm sure that all of the pregnancy hormones are responsible as well), and I feel so blessed. I'm healthy, I have a wonderful family, incredible friends, and I married an amazing man who is my best friend. I really couldn't ask for more and yet we have this little heartbeat to add to it, growing stronger everyday.
