I am not sure if the world is ready for this, specifically I'm not sure if the world is ready for a mini-Kook or a mini-Hotpants - but that is exactly what we have to look forward to this March!
We decided to start this blog to keep our family and friends who live far away involved in this new chapter of our lives. We are currently keeping our "news" a secret, until we hear the heartbeat on September 2nd. But when we do finally share our good news - all of the early details will be recorded here. So here is our story!
We found out we were pregnant on Sunday, July 6th, on our way home from Florida. We spent the week of July 4th in Suwannee with the Whitaker family for our annual family vacation. We had a great time - some much needed rest and relaxation. We drove home that Sunday and after discussing a few odd symptoms I had been experiencing late in the week, we decided a pregnancy test might be necessary.
On our way through High Point, we pass right by Wal-Mart, so we decide to stop in and pick-up a test. Much later in the day, after avoiding all restroom stops the last 4 hours of the trip, we finally make it home to High Point. By this point - I am dying. My bladder is screaming at me that this might be the dumbest idea ever. When we pull into the parking lot at Wal-Mart I tell Mike that there is no way I can make it home - to our house - to take the test. He starts laughing and says "What are you going to do - take the test in the bathroom at Wal-Mart?" And before he can protest I jump out of the car. I had no choice. It was test now or wait until tomorrow morning - which neither of us had enough patience to do. I literally run through the doors, make a beeline for the pregnancy test aisle, and then a beeline for the checkout, and then straight to the bathroom. That's right - I took a pregnancy test in the bathroom at Wal-Mart. Just so you know, I'm completely aware that this was classy with a capital "K". But we're thinking there just might be a Wal-Mart endorsement deal in this kid's future. It's worth a shot.
I leave the bathroom and find Mike standing in line at the checkout. Ever the planner, he decided to pick up a few grocery staples while he was waiting on me. So while we wait, I tell him the news. There is a second line. We're both in disbelief - but we also can't stop laughing at the circumstances. We keep looking at our poor cashier - imagining the thoughts running through her head - and then back at each other. This is really going to make for an interesting start in the baby book.
When we get to the car I finally show Mike the test. He decides that the second line isn't dark enough. He doesn't believe that we are pregnant. I try to tell him that a line is a line! He insists on getting another test. Something without lines - something that clearly says "PREGNANT". So we stop and buy another test. A digital test. This time we wait until we get home. And sure enough, after the longest 3 minutes of our life - the single word that changed both of our worlds pops up - "Pregnant."
So far things are going great. We had our first ultrasound on Thursday, July 30th (more on that later) and our baby is growing perfectly! We go back on September 2nd and will get to hear the heartbeat on the doppler. By then we will be 12 weeks and we will be ready to share our news with anyone who is willing to listen! Just so you know - it hasn't been easy - we can't wait to tell you!
