25 Weeks & 5 Days - Eggplant Anyone?

This month Baby M is about the size of an eggplant (that just makes me think of italian food really)!

This week Baby M has now completed two-thirds of her stay in Hotel Mommy! Head to heels, Baby M now measures about 14 inches. Her weight is only about 1 & 2/3 pounds but she's beginning to exchange her long, lean look for some baby fat. Deep breath! Air sacks are developing in Baby M's lungs, which means it just might be possible for her to take a breath at the end of this week. Baby M's eyes are now fully developed and brainwaves for the auditory and visual systems are detectable in her noggin this week. That means Baby M's brain is registering things like sound and light. She can't understand what any of it means yet, but she's on track to comprehend an entire episode of Blue's Clues in no time! As hearing continues to develop, Baby M will start to recognize my voice. Now is the time that she will also start to recognize her Daddy's voice as well - which is good since he talks to her regularly.

Mommy is feeling good. I have the occasional heartburn and my back is starting to ache from time to time - but all in all I feel good and I still have plenty of energy. Baby M has really been active lately. She kicks so hard now that you can see my stomach move - this just started happening over the weekend. It's not small movement either - it looks like someone's trying to kick their way out into the world! But it's awesome to see and to feel her move so much. We watch for her big show each night - it's almost like whale watching. You really don't know if you'll get to see anything - but when you do it's really exciting! Here is the latest photo of Mommy with the ever growing baby bump:

It's hard to believe that by the end of this week we'll be done with the second trimester and starting the third! Time has really, really flown by! We are getting very excited about March and we've been busy preparing for the little ones arrival. We've completed our search for daycare centers and have our name on the waiting list at two different centers. After the first of the year we may look into in-home daycare providers, but we at least feel good knowing that Baby M has a slot at least at one of two great places. We started a savings account for our little one and we're looking into starting a 529 plan for her future college days - that's just a scary, scary thought! We finished our registering, you can find our baby registries at Babies-R-Us or at Target. And we've done quite a bit of work on the nursery, but I'm going to do a separate post with those updates and photos!
